What Are You Thinking?
Have you ever taken a moment out of your busy schedule to just pay attention to what you are currently “thinking”? You know, that “world wind” of responsibilities constantly distracting you. Are your thoughts tending to be more “positive” or “negative”?
[Part 1 – Topic]
As we continue this series, you may recall our remembrance from Sunday school days long gone. Considered words to live by: “Oh, be careful little mind what you think…” Remember the Evil One (Satan) has so many distractions to fill your mind with everything you should “not” be focusing on.
Remember the saying, “Garbage in, garbage out”. I remember hearing this initially concerning the importance of correct information being entered into a computer. Yet, our minds are far more important when it comes to keeping our own thoughts “good” and “wholesome”.
Positive and negative thinking is powerful, ultimately influencing your decisions (plus those of other people around you). Realize that your thoughts will likely get voiced “out load” through the words you use. So, remember to use some caution.
[Part 2 – Problem]
What can a person do when their spouse always appears to be so negative? After a long and hard day at work, you probably prefer to come home to a warm and relaxing environment. At least nothing which causes your blood pressure to rise or your own words to go from “bad” to “worse”.
Some days you may even ponder whether your other half really loves you. Most marriages, even those involving two Christians, have days where … well, let’s just say that things could have gone much better. Never forget, tomorrow is just a sleep away.
Possibly you are also concerned about other things outside of your control. Like instability at work, with rumors that changes are coming. Maybe some level of frustration connected to paying all of the bills this month. These concerns are real, but should never cause followers of Jesus to feel crippled beneath their weight.
[Part 3 – Solution]
Ultimately, every marriage should include two people who genuinely love each other. Every single day should be filled with “kind” words. Both the husband and the wife should help to build a more positive environment, where only words that demonstrate genuine appreciation are used and remembered.
As Christians, we have an even stronger weapon in our arsenal. Never forget the powerful impact you make with your prayers. This includes time pouring out your heart to your Loving Heavenly Father. And time listening for His guidance and direction. Maybe now is a good time to spend alone with Him.
Of course, every one of us should take a little time “away” for refreshing. Our minds seemingly are always “on” without any real downtime. Maybe you and your dear spouse could use some quality time, alone and together. Possibly enjoying a daily walk routine. Or picnic in the park or backyard. Never forget: your mind is worth preserving for the long run, and so is your marriage.
From one who forever remains…
