Enjoying Holiday Music
Are you excited about Christmas? How about the music which embraces the holiday season? When was the last time you felt like a child during the month of December? Would you be willing to freshly experience the music which is often shared only during the season dedicated to the holiday we call “Christmas”?
[What]
With so many things to do to in preparation for the holiday season, consider setting aside some time to really “listen” to the sounds around you. Between buying presents and decorating, try to proactively listen to the music playing all around you.
You likely already have a favorite song or two in mind. Maybe this year should be opened up to “hearing” and enjoying several tunes. Songs about Jesus in a manger, Rudolph and his shiny nose, and grandma getting run over by a reindeer, and many others. Maybe even listen for a song you rarely ever hear, or even something new.
As Christians, we generally gravitate more so toward the “faith-based” carols of yesteryear. All of these will likely be available to you again this year. Maybe you would be willing to expand your collection. Please feel free to enjoy how so much of the music celebrates a season of love, giving, kindness, generosity and faith.
[Where]
While at home, driving in the car, productive at work, shopping in the store, and everywhere else you find yourself. Music is usually readily available all around during the Christmas season.
Certain locations should already have music playing when you arrive. The rest of your day could be selections which you decide on. Your own physical or digital collection will generally contain songs which you have heard and enjoyed in the past. Consider also looking for a few “new” songs, just to sample something fresh.
Remember, even though they play the same songs over and over on the radio, the season is short. Try to enjoy the holiday music now while it is in “season”, so to speak. By the way, what song do you love to hear each and every single year?
[Why]
Although some have been pushing back around the holiday season, worried about the over-commercialization and consumerism. Retail stores embrace the holidays for liquidating inventory and increasing revenue.
Some focus mostly or exclusively on their own interests. Like getting everything that I really want, before anyone else gobbles it all up. Honestly, you do not require the permission of anyone to buy yourself a present. Just consider all the people who love you, and maybe give each one something to say “thank you”.
Perhaps you have heard that music is good for the soul. Perhaps each of us could embrace some extra heart-warming time this year. Please do your very best to embrace this incredible time of year, through music. Maybe you will even begin to feel like a child once again.
