HIM & HER — Together (on the Same Page)

[Challenge]

Movie Night

Have you and your spouse taken any time recently to watch a movie — together?  Specifically, have you both sit quietly through the entire screening without any talking or other distractions?

Consider exploring your already owned collection first, something you acquired but never watched, or not recently viewed.  Possibly, you may prefer to obtain a new movie, especially if you only enjoy watching something where you are clueless of the ending.

There are so many “Christian” movies available for consideration.  You may also want to peruse different “Family – approved” (for all ages) film choices.  Depending on the personal preferences of both you and your spouse, I would recommend starting your search with the “G” rated films (you can always explore other options which both of you agree to).

Probably one question both of you should be asking is whether you enjoy a romance, comedy, or documentary … maybe even consider an action, suspense, or mystery.  The choice is completely up to the two of you, for the successful completion of this challenge.  I would probably start with a “love story” if this event will only involve you and the love of your life, alone (may have to upgrade to a “PG” rating).

If you would rather have a movie night that includes any children, perhaps you should select something with a story of a family that shares an adventure or learns a lesson together.  My wife, Edith, and I really enjoy animated films (cartoons) … that mystery-solving Scooby Doo being our all-time favorite.

While brainstorming your options, remember you can still watch a movie the old-fashioned way (blue ray, DVD, or VHS).  Most of us probably enjoy a little mix of the older with the newer releases.  If you prefer digital, feel free to utilize whichever free orpaid service for streaming or downloading you enjoy the most.

Perhaps the single most important thing to remember for movie night is the “Snacks” – popcorn, chips, candy, chocolate, beverages, etc.  hopefully you and your main squeeze will appreciate this reminder, that is if you are people after my own stomach.  Try not to go overboard too much though, as we do not want either of you with a massive stomach ache.

The lighting should probably be lower than your usual room lighting needs.  Also, sitting a little closer to the screen (depending on its size and the room layout) may help with more of a theater effect.

Once the movie is over, try to invest some quality discussion time with each person who watched the film.  Offering a critique of the movie, with hopefully at least one positive remembrance.  Try to be as optimistic as possible, and allow each other to add to your thoughts once you have completed your “review”.

Thanks for choosing to participate in this challenge.  We appreciate your sincere interest in a stronger and healthier “Christian” marriage, which honestly requires spending some time together.  May God bless your time of shared entertainment and enjoyment, and bring your hearts and lives more closely knit together as one.

From one who forever remains…

“Under the Shadow of the Almighty” (Psalm 91:1),
