Not Entertaining Evil Thoughts
Maybe you are somewhat concerned about passing thoughts that come to your mind, and they are not always as “good” as you would prefer. Remember, your Awesome God is readily available to help you with everything. So, how concerned should you actually be about this?
[Part 1 – Topic]
Your mind really should get the very best available thoughts. As a child of God, you honestly should focus your attention on whatever would please your Heavenly Father. The end result should be a maximum of good thoughts, with a minimal of bad (if any).
Likely you have heard the old saying, “garbage in, garbage out”. Computer programmers especially understand the value of quality input in order for quality output. We must learn to program our minds wisely.
Married Christians will likely be a target for Satan. Please be vigilant, and invest quality time in reading God’s Word. You will probably never spend too much time filling your mind with good (positive) things to recall throughout your day.
[Part 2 – Problem]
So, you had one of those “passing” evil thoughts earlier today. Now what should you do? Do you think you should spend the next hour trying to figure out where that thought originated, or just forget about it?
Perhaps while reminiscing about long-gone events, you remembered someone who wronged you in the past. Maybe you even noticed thoughts of anger and ill will surface once again. Will you ever be able to get over it for good?
Maybe you recently noticed your thoughts and desires are not always seemingly “Christian” (at least sometimes). Do you really need to be “godly” all the time, even when at work and other secular events?
[Part 3 – Solution]
Remember, passing thoughts “from the evil one” are not sin. Simply rebuke them and allow them to go as quickly as possible. The problem seems to happen if and when God’s children “dwells” on those “ungodly” ideas.
If you recall something that has been done against you, please forgive those who have wronged you. Even if your bitterness is strong and runs deep, you need to let it go. Your own health is not worth jeopardizing (if the past continues to eat at you).
As you recognize things in your life to be “far-less-than-perfect”, take a moment to prayerfully ask your Creator to help you to grow stronger. Every challenge can be overcome, with the right “mindset” and the Holy Spirit’s guidance.
