What Are You Listening?
Hopefully this is not the very first time you have ever pondered the fact that you likely could be making some better choices. Remember, you have been entrusted with “free will” and can decide for yourself what is preferred. Please consider integrating the wisdom of God and the help from other Christian believers in to your decision process.
[Part 1 – Topic]
Another verse of the song we mentioned last week goes something like this: “Oh, be careful little ears what you hear”. Of course, that advice is probably even more critical in the world we live in today, with so much “noise” out there. Try to be vigilant and turn off those “negative” vibes, if and when you are able to.
Let us be certain to continue our focus this week on identifying those good “Christian” and “marriage” valued resources which your ears are “consuming”. And remember, YOU have complete control over your own selections. Just be mindful of your Awesome God when making those “choices”.
So many of us are listening to music, talk radio, news, and much more. There is so much available content for “entertainment” and “learning”. Please remember to be selective, as we appear to have far more choices (channels) now than any other time in history.
[Part 2 – Problem]
So, what can a person do about noisy neighbors, constantly playing the radio so loud? And with such poor taste in “music” (or whatever that “sound” really is). Likely you prefer not to have to “move away”, but what options do you have?
Is your spouse listening to music which does not pass your “approval”? Possibly one or two instances containing “less-than-desirable” lyrics? Honestly, you two love birds get along better when you are “not arguing”, right? So, is it worth starting another disagreement now?
Maybe deep down inside, you may even be distracted by “some” interest in that “worldly” groove. Trust me, I understand having a genuine appreciation for “most” music. Remember, not all “secular” (non-Christian) songs will drive you away from God.
[Part 3 – Solution]
When it comes to addressing neighbors and friends, my preference is to be courteous and respectful. You are welcomed to talk with your noisy neighbors, at least during those times when they can actually “hear” you.
If you and your other half are dealing with different preferences in music (or any other audio choices), please invest a few minutes to discuss. Both of you should be able to enjoy a certain level of freedom even within the marriage. Just be extra careful not to negatively impact your relationship.
Perhaps the very best advice you can possibly receive is “Prayer changes everything”. Likely you have already heard and even believe this concept. Maybe you have even had a “positive” outcome in the past (from invested time in prayer). Allow the Holy Spirit of God to help bring something fresh and new your way today.
From one who forever remains…
“Under the Shadow of the Almighty” (Psalm 91:1),
