HIM & HER — Together (on the Same Page)
[Bible]
True Understanding
“The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there are any who understand, who seek God.” (Psalm 14:2)
Do you ever find yourself sincerely “seeking” God for understanding? You know, that deep desire to really get to “know” Him? How about in your marriage … do you two love birds ever actually see eye-to-eye?
[Understanding]
To begin, let us break this word into two parts: “under” and “standing”. Next, we will potentially see more fully if we read it as “standing under” (another person’s point-of-view). “Seeing” how someone else views. “Thinking” along another person’s way of reasoning.
Maybe even consider the concept of walking in someone else’s shoes. Allowing yourself to travel to the destinations of a different person, while pursuing the journey they would select to get there.
Perhaps we should even invest some time in just “watching” and “learning” the decisions and behaviors of someone else. Really getting to know a person actually requires a little “time” and “patience”, without keeping all to ourselves.
[God]
In the world where you live, do you notice if many individuals or couples appear to be “seeking God”? With all of the distractions going on around us, who really knows what any of us are actually focused on? Our “to-do” list helps to keep us focusing most of our energy on our “own” interests.
Looking into God’s Word should shed some light on who God is and how He sees. When was the last time you found some fresh new perspective from the Bible? Seeing something from a “different” point-of-view. So enlightening.
Christians should also enjoy the help provided by the Holy Spirit within. You should be very careful to always pursue God’s perspective on everything (especially before any critical decisions and costly mistakes are ever made). Remember, prayer is the tool to “phone home” whenever needed.
[Spouse]
Not only should we seek to understand our Awesome God’s perspective, but consider the benefits from better understanding our life partner. Your spouse has so much to offer. Remember, having that second perspective in the home and marriage is worth your time requesting.
You know the best way to begin understanding your life partner? Consider taking a few moments and simply “ask” what you can do to be of assistance. Wow, that sounds ways too easy. Well, you may only hear “words” the first time around. Continue listening to the “heart” for the real “meaning”.
Investing some quality time with the love of your life should include healthy discussion. You should consider sharing your ideas about an upcoming project, and ask for advice. This simple task should at least get the discussion started. Take the extra time to clarify what you think you heard. Be sure to integrate your spouse’s ideas to the best of your ability. Your home should be filled with “both” of you.
From one who forever remains…
