Fasting from Sweets
So, what is your weakness? Are you constantly “drawn” by something that tastes “sweet”? A slice of cake, a piece of pie, a bowl of ice cream… The choices seem nearly endless whenever that “sweet-tooth” kicks in. Consider avoiding one or more of your favorite sweets over the next week.
[Taste]
Do you make your meal selections merely based upon the “taste” of the final product, or do you consider what “ingredients” are used and possibly from where they are “sourced”? Or, do you disregard reading the “label” altogether?
If you struggle with the concept of eliminating anything sweet from your dietary intake for the next week or so, consider the possibility of just “downsizing”. Maybe eating “smaller” portions of those incredibly delicious desserts and snacks. Possibly supplement with fruits, nuts, seeds, or something else of “nutritional” value.
Some foods are designed only for their “maximum” taste benefit and nothing else. These items should always be consumed in “moderation”. If there is a healthier choice available, consider trying it for the next week. You can always go back.
[Alternatives]
When shopping, consider evaluating those “other” possibilities within your favorite “grocery” store. Comparing between the fresh, refrigerated and frozen sections for similar items will often be worth the extra few minutes. You may be surprised at what you discover.
Focusing on healthier snack and dessert choices will likely contain less “added” sugars (or other sweeteners). Most fruits will contain “natural” sugars for sweetness, without the added “processed” sugars. Just a thought if your willing to go the more “natural” route.
Replacing just one “less” healthy item with something better can be a big step. Consider how you will feel when your decisions begin providing higher “nutritional” value, and possibly requiring less time “exercising” just to keep that treat from expanding the waste line.
[Results]
If you have a goal to “maintain” or even “lose” some weight, you should consider making things a little easier on yourself. Saying “no” to one or more of those desserts or snacks this week should hopefully cause you to feel and be a little healthier. Take a moment and consider what you could live without (at least for a short duration).
If you are interested in being the absolute healthiest “version” of you possible, sweets should really be ingested at a “minimal” rate. Every now and then should not be of significant concern for most individuals. It really comes down to overcoming your area of weakness, something calling to you week after week.
Honestly, you are free to eat whatever is available to you. Hopefully you will see the need to be selective with your own “food” choices. Even those small, incremental changes moving toward the healthier snacks and desserts will show progress. The end result will hopefully be you making a small sacrifice for an overall healthier “you”.
